About Ann

Ann Cohen is an independent consultant based in Washington, DC. Since 2004 she served as a Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource. Her practice is centered on strengthening governance capabilities, supporting engagement, and providing forward-thinking solutions. She believes in “making it work” and has advised and counseled numerous organizations on complex governance and strategic issues.

With over 25 years in the sector as a consultant, board leader, program director, and faculty member with nonprofits, NGOs, and corporations she works in partnership with her clients to deliver the leadership training, coaching, conflict resolution, and learning required to lead and act. Ann’s practice led to the creation of PRESIDE, a nationwide leadership program for board chairs and CEOs learning at the intersection of leadership and governance through a values-based lens.

Prior to her consulting practice, Ann was a senior technology executive, where she secured and ran a $3.5 billion business. Her career began as a Justice Department attorney, litigating cases across the U.S. and in the U.S. Supreme Court. Ann has served on many nonprofit boards including social justice, education, religion, and community building. A cum laude graduate of Clark University, she earned her JD from Antioch School of Law.
