About David


David Styers brings three decades of nonprofit consulting and facilitation experience, as well as an extensive background working at the forefront of civic engagement in arts, volunteer, and leadership development, to his role as a senior nonprofit board governance consultant. A BoardSource Certified Governance consultant, David has expertise in nonprofit responsibilities and exceptional practices, fundraising, leadership and partnership development, outcomes measurement, strategic planning, and volunteer management. His clients have included local, state, national, and international organizations, and he was a Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource for 13 years, including 5 years full-time on staff from 2007-2012.

David Styers is also currently Director, Learning and Leadership Programs at the League of American Orchestras in New York City, and he is the representative for volunteers at the United Nations. Most recently Managing Director, Strategy and Planning for Ascent Leadership Networks, and Director of Learning and Development at the Presidio Trust in San Francisco, David has run fellowship and leadership education programs as diverse as for cross-sector corporate, nonprofit, and government leaders to orchestra managers and conductors. From 2014-2017, David worked at the Presidio Institute creating and implementing leadership development programs and convenings that equipped and connected champions for change.
