
Annamaria Steward
General Counsel
Annamaria Steward joined BoardSource in 2025 as the inaugural General Counsel. She has built a career advancing the legal profession and access to justice across the judiciary, private practice, legal education, corporate law, and nonprofit leadership.
Annamaria is also the Executive Director of The National Black Lawyers Top 100 and Top 40 Under 40. Previously, she served as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of Agilian, LLC; led leadership and strategic development at the D.C. Bar; served as Associate Dean of Students at UDC Law; practiced at Jack H. Olender & Associates, P.C.; and clerked for the Chief Judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals.
A longtime bar leader, Annamaria was the first African American woman to serve as President of the now 155-year-old Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC) and is the third person to have been elected President of both the BADC and the now 120,000 member D.C. Bar, where she championed pro bono service and led the completion of the D.C. Bar’s headquarters.
Annamaria’s service includes leadership roles with D.C. Refers, the D.C. Bar and its John Payton Leadership Academy, the Maryland Bar Admissions Task Force, Dartmouth College, and the BADC Young Lawyers Section. She also hosted a twice-weekly DCTV program focused on lawyers’ contributions to the legal profession and the community. Currently, Annamaria serves on the boards of the Appleseed Network Foundation, The Barristers, The Historical Society of the D.C. Circuit, and the BADC.
Annamaria earned her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.
